A Fair to Remember

The County Fair kicked ass. A colleague just told me she went to a demolition derby on the same day… and that probably would have kicked ass too. BUT, there wouldn’t have been baby animals there. Or roasted corn on the cob.

There was Smokey the Bear,

a primate playing folk songs,

and this lovely lady, who we were sharing a tent with (and who helped attract a lot of kids). Oh, and our stall did pretty well! I made a pipe-cleaner monkey, fish, chameleon, and bird. Gave em all away. I also ended up refereeing the PortaPotty Yacht race. Very fun!

Oh, and of course the Scientologists. Who were, oddly enough, placed in a row of religious groups. Seems like they should have been put with the stalls for people selling useless crap.

There were people on stilts too. And as many of you know, I avoid them at all costs. Stilt-wearing bastards, why do you taunt me??

To work or not to work, that is the question.

I’ve been pretty good today. Really I have.

Can I have a drink yet?

Vendetta Day

I’m wearing Vendetta today. It’s just been that kind of morning.

I have a problem. It’s not a drinking problem, THAT is fortunately all worked out (3 seminars already this week = lots of beers afterwards, and I’m doing fine). My problem is a pathological inability to not volunteer myself for things. It’s genetic, I inherited this trait from Snicks. I blame you, Mom. Thanks!

Ug. I’m going to be the webmaster for the grad students… AGAIN. Also, just looked at the webpage I built for the students in NY and no one has updated it since I left last Spring. Awesome. I should get to that sometime after taken care of my other volunteered activities for this week, cleaning out office space, painting a lab space, showing a new student how to use the library, making pipe cleaner animals, and doing the reading for a course I only signed up for because it would have been cancelled otherwise and the prof was depressed.

I am such a dumbass.

<Aside: Half of these activities are helping out a girl named Karen. Remind anyone of my first year in grad school in NY? There are copious other similarities as well. God help me, she seems nice.>
